Hui Paoakalani will be paddling to Antelope Island on Saturday, August 24th.  We have changed the time for this event from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM for meeting and prepping Na Wa'a for the trip.  We will leave the marina at approximately 9:00 AM.  So far, we have only 1 crew confirmed to make the trip.  Paddlers who have confirmed to join us are:  Kumu Butch Porter (steersman), Darren & Nalu Medeiros, Kwan Ki and Ben Au.  Shauna Au and Ra Arii are probables at this point.

No "first time" paddlers for this event due to the distance (16 miles round trip) and physical demands to complete the paddle.  If you want to join us, please email us at huipaoakalani@gmail.com.  You can also call or text Ben Au at 801-721-7026.   Mahalo!!

KAILANA KALEO: New Sailing Outrigger Canoe on the Great Salt Lake

That's Right!! You heard it here first. Hui Paoakalani is re-outfitting Kailana Kaleo, our royal purple and yellow beauty, to turn her into a sailing outrigger canoe. We have begun work and purchased items to outfit Kaleo with (a)sail, (b)mast,(c)spur, (d) boom, (e)new double amas (outriggers) and (f)new "iakos". Our plan is to have Kaleo as a sailing canoe to teach our youth about sailing and their heritage as voyagers throughout the Pacific Ocean. Anyone interested in assisting the Hui with this project can contact us via email at huipaoakalani@gmail.com. We are looking forward to sailing to various parts of the Great Salt Lake. You never know where Kumu Butch will take us on the lake. Rumor is that Kumu Butch will be installing a "shaved ice" cup holder on seat number 6.
