Hui Paoakalani is Utah's FIRST Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe Club. We are affiliated with the Ka Lama Mohala Foundation. Our paddle season generally runs March - September (weather permitting). KAILANA KALEO: New Sailing Outrigger Canoe on the Great Salt Lake
That's Right!! You heard it here first. Hui Paoakalani is re-outfitting Kailana Kaleo, our royal purple and yellow beauty, to turn her into a sailing outrigger canoe. We have begun work and purchased items to outfit Kaleo with (a)sail, (b)mast,(c)spur, (d) boom, (e)new double amas (outriggers) and (f)new "iakos". Our plan is to have Kaleo as a sailing canoe to teach our youth about sailing and their heritage as voyagers throughout the Pacific Ocean. You never know where Kumu Butch will take us on the lake. Rumor is that Kumu Butch will be installing a "shaved ice" cup holder on seat number 6.
