SATURDAY PADDLE - JULY 29, 2017

Aloha Hui Members and Friends,

We will be paddling this Saturday, July 29, 2017 from 10 am to 2 pm.   This week the Hui will be hosting a group of high school students and a few parents from East High School.  In order to get everyone paddle time, we will need to be on time and prepared to paddle.   Temperatures should be in the low to mid 90 degrees, mostly sunny and winds 5 - 10 mphs.  An afternoon thunderstorm is possible.

We will have our normal pot luck luncheon sometime after 12 Noon.  Our menu will be hotdogs and chili with Macaroni salad.  Please bring your favorite dish, salad or desert.  If you have any questions, please call me at 801-721-7026.

Mahalo,

Ben

SATURDAY PADDLE - JULY 22, 2017

Aloha Hui Members and Friends,

We will have a Saturday Paddle this Saturday, July 22, 2017 starting at 10 am - 2 pm.  Hopefully the dredging will be complete as they were still working on a few spots in the marina last Saturday.  We apologize for the inconveniences of dredging which has limited our paddling as the marina is sometimes blocked by the dredging barge.   However, the benefits of this project will be long term as the marina will be better maintained and usage will be increased overall.

We will have a potluck luncheon as usual.  Again, weather projections show another hot Utah summer day with temperatures in the mid 90 to 100 degrees and 10 - 15 mph winds.  If you have any questions, please call me at 801-721-7026.

SATURDAY PADDLE - JULY 15, 2017

Aloha Hui Members and Friends,

We will be paddling this Saturday, July 15, 2017.  Kumu Kaleo and Ohana will be visiting Utah and will join us this Saturday.  Kumu wants to practice Malama Honua while at the GSL Marina so we have planned a small service project to clean up the area surrounding our canoe storage area.  We will clean  up, pick up trash, pull weeds and make our earth a better place.  Please bring a few tools and this should take no longer than 20 - 30 minutes.  Therefore, we will start our activities at 9 am and finish up around 2 pm or sometime after that.  Most times we don't leave till after 3 pm.

We will have our normal pot luck luncheon sometime after 12 Noon.  Again, it will be a hot day as temperatures should be around 100 degrees.  Last Saturday was definitely one of our hottest paddle days.  Bring protective gear, sun screen, water, gatorade, and anything else to ensure a safe and enjoyable paddle.  If you have questions, please call me at 801-721-7026.

HUI PADDLE - SATURDAY, JULY 8, 2017

Aloha Hui Members and Friends,

We will be paddling this Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 10 am to 2 pm.  We also plan to rig and launch the Melinda Lei Hanohano this Saturday.  The Great Salt Lake Marina is almost back to normal as the dredging has been completed and the docks have been reassembled for the most part.  There is probably still some work to do on the docks but we are ready to resume our normal paddling.  You are all invited to join us.

We will also have our normal pot luck luncheon and our menu for this week is hamburger steak, rice, and potato macaroni salad.  We are also planning to make some shave ice.  Please bring your favorite dish or dessert.  Mahalo to everyone who helped with the maintenance of our canoes over the past 3 months.  We still have some work to do on the Kailana Kaleo, our sailing canoe, over the next several months.  If you have any questions, call me at 801-721-7026.

Mahalo,  Ben
